According to GeekTyrant, Marvel just hired screenwriter and actress Stacy Osei-Kuffour to pen the upcoming Blade movie. The studio first announced this project during San Diego Comic-Con in 2019, with Academy Award winner Mahershala Ali (Moonlight, Alita: Battle Angel) cast as the lead character. Blade is a superhero who hunts down vampires even though he is a half-vampire himself. Osei-Kuffour previously worked on HBO’s mini-series Watchmen, based on the critically-acclaimed graphic novel by Dave Gibbons and Alan Moore. She also worked on Hunters, Amazon’s series about Nazi hunters in the 1970s New York.
Blade was created for Marvel Comics in 1973 by writer Marv Wolfman and penciler Gene Colan. In the late 1990s, when superhero movies were only beginning to dominate the cinema landscape, Stephen Norrington directed an adaptation featuring Wesley Snipes in the lead role. Released in 1998, Blade proved successful enough to be followed by two sequels. One of them was directed by then-unknown Guillermo Del Toro. Years later, Del Toro would win the Academy Award for his movie The Shape of Water. In 2006, Spike produced a TV series Blade, with rapper and actor Sticky Fingaz portraying the main character. However, the series only lasted one season.
