SlashFilm reports Warner Bros. hired screenwriter and director Emerald Fennell to produce the script for a movie featuring DC superhero Zatanna. Just last week, Fennell’s feature film debut Promising Young Woman received five Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director (for Fennell), Best Original Screenplay (Fennell, also), Best Actress (Carey Mulligan), and Best Film Editing. Before this, Fennell appeared in period dramas like Anna Karenina and The Danish Girl. She also starred in TV shows The Crown and Call the Midwife. Later Fennell worked as a writer and a showrunner on the second season of the spy series Killing Eve.
As for Zatanna, she is a formidable sorceress who also works as a stage magician. She is a valuable member of the Justice League and one of the creators of Justice League Dark – an organization of superheroes like John Constantine, Deadman, Madame Xanadu, and Shade: The Changing Man who fight various supernatural threats. Zatanna was created in 1964 by Gardner Fox and Murphy Anderson. Interestingly, Zatanna inherited powers from her father Giovanni “John” Zatara, a Golden Age superhero created by Fred Guardineer back in 1938.
