Warner Bros. revealed release dates for two of its upcoming movies – Mad Max: Fury Road prequel Furiosa and Gary Dauberman’s (Annabelle Comes Home) adaptation of Stephen King’s horror novel ‘Salem’s Lot. According to an article by SlashFilm, ‘Salem’s Lot will premiere on September 9, 2022. As for Furiosa, the studio has pushed its release date from June 23, 2023, to May 24, 2024. With the pandemic upsetting the production schedules and ticket sales, this decision was hardly unexpected.
Mad Max: Fury Road prequel entered development at Warner Bros. in October 2020. Around that time we first heard the studio cast Anya Taylor-Joy (The Queen’s Gambit) as the young Imperator Furiosa – a character Charlize Theron portrayed in Fury Road. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Candyman) and Chris Hemsworth (Thor: Ragnarok) were cast as well. Creator of the Mad Max movies George Miller is onboard, too.
As for ‘Salem’s Lot, Dauberman announced the film back in April 2019. The project stalled last year due to the pandemic. The principal photography began this September in Massachusetts. The cast of the film includes Bill Camp (The Outsider), Makenzie Leigh (Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk), Lewis Pullman (Bad Times at the El Royale), William Sadler (Bill & Ted Face the Music), Spencer Treat Clark (Glass), and Alfre Woodard (Captain America: Civil War).
