Venom 2 Gets a New Title and a New Release Date

SlashFilm reports that Sony’s Venom sequel joined the growing list of superhero blockbusters postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic. Sony just moved the film from its original release date on October 2, 2020, all the way to June 25, 2021. Additionally, Venom 2 has a new title, and it is a glorious one – Venom: Let There Be Carnage!

For the uninitiated ones among you: Carnage is the name of the Spider-Man supervillain – an amorphous alien parasite hosted by the serial killer Cletus Kasady. It belongs to the same extraterrestrial race as Venom and grants its host a similar set of powers. Created by the writer David Michelinie and artist Mark Bagley, Carnage made its first appearance in 1992.

Cletus Kasady appears in the first Venom film in a brief post-credits scene. He was portrayed by Woody Harrelson (Zombieland) who will reprise his performance in this film alongside Tom Hardy who will once again play the ill-fated investigative journalist Eddie Brock. Venom: Let There Be Carnage will be directed by the actor and motion performance artist Andy Serkis (The Lord of the Rings, King Kong, latest Planet of the Apes trilogy).
