SlashFilm reports Sony finished shooting Uncharted despite both the global pandemic and the seemingly inescapable development hell the project was stuck in for over a decade. Directed by Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland), this action-adventure film stars Tom Holland (Spider-Man: Homecoming) as young treasure hunter Nathan Drake and Mark Wahlberg (Transformers: The Last Knight) as his mentor Victor “Sully” Sullivan. The cast of the film also includes Sophia Ali (Grey’s Anatomy), Tati Gabrielle (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina), and Antonio Banderas (The Laundromat).
Uncharted is an adaptation of the ultra-popular series of video games published by Sony since 2007. The idea for a movie version existed for almost as long as games themselves. However, the project kept experiencing setback after setback. Just in the last year or so, Uncharted changed several directors. The studio also changed its release date several times – which, in the bye-bye years, used to imply production troubles. But then the pandemic came and made endless postponement of films and TV shows a new normal.
So, Uncharted is complete and will come out on July 16, 2021. Now, the only thing left for it is not to suck. Well, good luck with that.
