Slash Film reports that Sony has postponed the release of its Uncharted movie for three months – from December 18, 2020, to March 5, 2021. This decision was merely a matter of time. In 2019, this long-gestating adaptation of a popular series of computer games replaced two directors. Sony first eyed Dan Trachtenberg (director of 10 Cloverfield Lane) for this job and then Travis Knight (Bumblebee). However, in both cases, negotiations fell through. After that, there wasn’t a chance Sony could manage to produce a half-decent action-adventure film in a mere 11 months. This is just the most recent setback in a production that’s been developing in fits and starts for over a decade now.
Pushing the Uncharted’s release date has bumped into Sony’s Masters of the Universe remake. Initially slated to come out in spring 2021, Sony’s new He-Man live-action movie has presently disappeared from the release schedule altogether. This provides some weight to rumors that the studio might just dump that film on Netflix. If nothing else, a live-action movie based on He-Man toys will be in a good company since the streaming service is currently developing two separate Masters of the Universe cartoons. One is a reimagining of the original cartoon helmed by Kevin Smith while the other is an anime-style show picking up where Filmation’s series ended back in 1985.
