AMC announced the release date for its new Walking Dead spinoff – The Walking Dead: World Beyond. According to Deadline, the series will premiere on April 12, 2020. Set a decade after events of the original show; World Beyond will focus on the quartet of teenagers who barely recall the time before zombies. As they embark on a perilous trip beyond the security perimeter of their compound, main characters find themselves pursued by others and both challenged and changed by the world of the walking dead.
As co-created by Scott M. Gimple and showrunner Matt Negrete, The Walking Dead: World Beyond will depict a self-contained story that will last for only two seasons. Nicolas Cantu (The Good Place), Hal Cumpston (Bilched), Alexa Mansour (Unfriended: Dark Web) and Aliyah Royale (The Red Line) will play lead characters. Other prominent cast members include Annet Mahendru (The Americans), Julia Ormond (Mad Men) and Nico Tortorella (The Following). The pilot episode will be directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts, director of Kong: Skull Island and The Kings of Summer.
