GeekTyrant reports AMC’s shambling undead juggernaut The Walking Dead will finally end in 2022 after its eleventh season. Depending on your taste and preferences, this might count as good or bad news. So does this: the AMC is planning a new Walking Dead spinoff, focusing on characters Daryl Dixon (played by Norman Reedus) and Carol Peletier (Melissa McBride). This new spinoff will arrive in 2023.
Now, the source is somewhat dubious: IGN posted a tweet announcing the news and then quickly deleted it. However, this being the internet, the tweet was already screenshot, saved, and shared around. Was this an honest mistake or deliberate way of creating internet buzz? Will Daryl fans get their show? Will The Walking Dead ever end? Who knows! It’s 2020! Anything goes!
But seriously though, The Walking Dead does continue, even with the COVID-19 pandemic. The finale of season 10 will air in October, with six additional episodes coming out early next year. There are currently two spinoffs as well: Fear the Walking Dead and The Walking Dead: World Beyond. On top of all that, AMC continues developing a film focusing on the character of Rick Grimes (played by Andrew Lincoln), which was recently confirmed by The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman. Considering all this, producing yet another spinoff, featuring a fan-favorite character seems like a no-brainer.
