The Russo Brothers Directing Chris Evans and Ryan Gosling in Netflix’s Spy Thriller

Brothers Anthony and Joe Russo are currently developing a big-budget spy thriller for Netflix featuring Chris Evans and Ryan Gosling in lead roles. Titled The Grey Man, the film follows Court Gentry (Gosling), a former CIA agent now working as a contract killer. He’s hunted by Lloyd Hansen (Evans), who used to work with Gentry during his CIA years. According to the GeekTyrant, Netflix is pulling out all the stops, reportedly investing over $200 million in the production in hopes of creating a new movie franchise. The Grey Man is based on a novel by a former Tom Clancy collaborator Mark Greaney who went on to write a successful series of spy thrillers. Screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, who already worked with the Russos on their Marvel movies, are finishing the script.

Joe and Anthony Russo first drew notice in 2002 with their crime comedy Welcome to Collinwood. This low-budget yet star-studded film featured, among others, George Clooney, Jennifer Esposito, Luis Guzmán, William H. Macy, Sam Rockwell, and Gabrielle Union. From there, the Russo brothers went on to direct episodes of sitcoms like Arrested Development and Community. When Marvel Studios hired them to direct Captain America: The Winter Soldier, this seemed like an unusual choice. But the Russos proved out to be up to the task. So much so, they went on to direct Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame.
