Amazon Prime’s gore-soaked adaptation of Garth Ennis’ comic book series The Boys is getting a third season! Mind you; we’re still about a month away from the premiere of the show’s second season! Not only that, but the series will be getting its own aftershow titled Prime Rewind: Inside The Boys. Aisha Tyler, the host of Whose Line Is It Anyway?, will interview the show’s cast and crew about the events of the show as well as its production. This news was first announced last weekend during the online event Comic-Con@Home.
Developed by Ennis and illustrator Darick Robertson, The Boys was first published by Wildstorm in October 2006 and ran for 72 issues until November 2012. Its premise follows a group of operatives led by Billy Butcher that monitors, confronts, and eliminates corrupt superheroes, obviously modeled on DC Comics characters. Eric Kripke (of the Supernatural fame) helped adapt the comic book into a TV series alongside Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg.
The Boys premiered on Amazon Prime in July 2019, prompting mostly favorable reactions from fans. Jack Quaid (The Hunger Games) plays the show’s hapless lead while Karl Urban (The Lord of the Rings, Star Trek) plays Butcher who initiates him into his group of vigilantes. Additionally, the show’s cast includes Jennifer Esposito (Mob Town), Karen Fukuhara (Suicide Squad), Simon Pegg (Hot Fuzz), Elisabeth Shue (Leaving Las Vegas), and others.
