Swamp Thing Series To Be Part Of DC Digital Service

I’ve never read DC’s Swamp Thing. For reasons that are likely far too atavistic for me to communicate the character didn’t particularly appeal to me when I was introduced to him so many moons ago.  Or, at least he didn’t at that time. I find in my later years a new….if not appreciation, let us call it ‘interest’ in heroic characters who on the outside may appear grotesque…or highly imperfect. I created such a character myself, one flawed in appearance…and while it may not be pretty to look at I adore them nonetheless.

Such was my interest in the character created by Len Wein and Bernie Wrightson piqued, that I revisited Wes Craven’s 1982 film Swamp Thing starring Dick Doruck and the lovely Adrienne Barbeau. It was, as I remembered it, campy 80’s fare. But it still retained its charm.

DC, on it’s upcoming digital service ( dubbed ‘DC Universe’) is bringing the leafy, big green guy back to the screen under the banner of James Wan’s Atomic Monster production company. The series will be written by Mark Verheiden and Gary Dauberman. The launch date, assuming everything goes as planned, is sometime in 2019.  Swamp Thing joins  several other DC properties on its soon to be launched service. Which is supposed to happen later this year.

Well, more power to them. I’m afraid I’m all tapped out regarding streaming services. No more for me thanks. If they want my eyeballs these services are going to have to start consolidating or dropping their prices because it’s getting pretty ridiculous out there.

I mean…I quit cable for a bloody reason.
