Seems like Ireland is quite the spot for productions lately, we just did a story about George R. R. Martin’s Nightflyers series being shot there and now independent.ie reports that veteran and acclaimed filmmaker Steven Spielberg has chosen the Island as a backdrop for his new horror film The Turning. Spielberg seems to have gone to great lengths to keep the production under wraps such as having the production crew sign Non-disclosure-agreements and special clearances required for anyone entering the production area. Seems odd for such a relatively small movie. The film is based off of the 1898 novella The Turn of The Screw by Henry James. It stars Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things (2016), It (2017)) and Mackenzie Davis Blade Runner (2049) and will be directed by Floria Sigismondi, whose body of work consists mostly of music videos.
Adaptation synopsis:
“tells the story of a young woman, played by Mackenzie Davis, who has taken on the part of a nanny in charge of looking after two orphans who live in a spooky country mansion.”
Seems like a lot of hubbub for a movie that he is only producing. Let’s hope it turns out better than some of his other productions, like The Transformer movies. Spielberg’s latest project where he actually directs is the film Ready Player One based off of the science fiction novel written by Ernest Cline. Ready Player One is slated for release this March.
