In the wake of the latest Star Wars trailer, of which those who know me know I couldn’t give a toss about, EA (Electronic Arts) had its own reveal for its latest Star Wars property Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.
The single-player, third-person action-adventure game takes place after Order 66 with the players taking on the role of a padawan named Cal Kestis, who is one of the surviving Jedi.
Platforms: PlayStation 4, Windows and Xbox One.
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is scheduled for release on November 15, 2019.
This looks much better than the inevitable trash that will be The Rise of Skywalker but I’m going to take a few moments to discuss the elephant in the room. Because here at I-marcus, we don’t pull any punches. It looks like we are entering a new era of tokenism one that rivals what was going on in the 1980’s. You see, back then, filmmakers usually made a habit of having at least one black person in the mix. This person was usually the comic relief and said things like “I ain’t going in there, ya’ll white folks is crazy!” or something equally silly but more or less harmless. In the 90’s we entered a sweet spot where we had black characters who were neither tokens nor were they despicable racists (like many of the black characters we see today). Action Jackson, Blade, The Long Kiss Goodnight and Strange Days are examples of Diversity Done Right. It seems like now the SJWs aren’t sure what to do. They don’t have the talent and moral center to render black characters like those I’ve described in the 90’s while at the same time some have become a little gun-shy about brandishing the racist black scum that we have seen throughout this culture war. This is not surprising, we Anti-SJWs have done a damn good job of unleashing hell on these vermin and their tainted properties wherever they rear their vile heads…but I digress. Now it looks like we have entered the phase where they are trying to appease everyone. They have a primary white character, and a noble, innocent, pure-hearted, doughy-eyed brown-skinned associate at their side. They push out this offering hoping that neither side tries to rip their head off. I just think it’s funny. Telling great stories with “diverse” characters is not difficult … assuming you don’t possess a toxic view of the world and the people who inhabit it. They actually think conservatives have a problem with dark-skinned folk, they really, really do. We won’t get into this self-projection now but that is how they approach their work. This is why said work is usually horrendous. It is why creatively…they fail. No, telling great stories is not as impossible as they seem to make it. All you have to do is treat people like sentient beings and not objects who are defined by their pigmentation and genitalia. Do not write stories that operate under non-factual premises like “White People Are Evil” or “People With Physical Attribute A Must Possess Ideology B”. Like seriously, don’t. Respect the source material. It’s cherished for a good reason. Don’t be scum. Follow these guidelines and it’s very difficult to go wrong. There’s my bit of positivity for the day.Toruk's Take
