SlashFilm reports that Noah Hawley, creator of TV shows Fargo and Legion, will write and direct the next Star Trek movie. This movie should once again bring back the crazily charismatic cast first assembled by J. J. Abrams for his 2009 Star Trek reboot: John Cho, Chris Pine, Simon Pegg, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, and Karl Urban.
It’s been grim two years for this project. Last spring, we reported that director C. J. Clarkson (The Defenders, Jessica Jones) will helm a film in which Captain Kirk travels back through time and encounters his father (Chris Hemsworth). But then, several months later, both Chrises walked out from negotiations since they couldn’t agree with Paramount about their fees. Now, the Star Trek is back on track. Since nobody is mentioning Hemsworth anymore, either his character is being written out or the whole time travel story is gone.
And then there’s Quentin Tarantino’s R-rated Star Trek script. Now, I’d be first in line to see a Star Trek film written by Tarantino. But I find it hard to believe that Paramount will allow him anywhere near its precious franchise. But who can tell? Stranger things have happened.
