Season 3 of Star Trek: Discovery premiered last week. Just several days later GeekTyrant reported CBS All Access renewed the show for a fourth season. The announcement came in a video featuring actors Sonequa Martin-Green (Michael Burnham) and Doug Jones (Saru) along with showrunners and executive producers Alex Kurtzman and Michelle Paradise. Furthermore, the production of the next season begins this November – quite surprising, considering the havoc pandemic made with the production schedules of movies and TV shows alike.
CBS All Access keeps developing new projects in an attempt to build a Star Trek shared universe akin to Marvel Cinematic Universe or DC Universe. We already reported about the Star Trek: Picard series and two animated TV shows – Star Trek: Lower Decks and Star Trek: Prodigy. Also, there are at least two new live-action shows in the works. Spinoff series Section 31 will feature Michelle Yeoh’s former Emperor Georgiou leading a clandestine organization within the Federation. And then there’s the prequel series Star Trek: Strange New Worlds about the adventures of USS Enterprise under the command of Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount).
In a recent interview on TV’s Top 5 podcast, Kurtzmann confirmed they are laying out plans for existing projects until 2027 while also exploring possible new ideas. In any case, that’s a lot of Star Trek. Like, a lot lot.
