Most people know that the comedy Roseanne starring Roseanne Barr and John Goodman came back to TV after two decades. In the series, and in real life Roseanne, like me, is a Trump supporter (though for me if he ever pulls an Omnibus bill-like stunt again that will likely change). Many were likely curious how this, as well as coming back after so long in general, would fare with the audience of today. As it turns out, pretty darn good.
Via The Wrap the return of Roseanne smashed viewer ratings. The return averaged a 5.1 rating/21 share among adults 18-49 and 18.2 million total viewers. These are twice as much as ABC was projecting. Further breakdown of how well it did follows:
“last night’s overall audience tally was actually 10 percent better than the 16.6 million viewers the original 1997 series finale hauled in.
marked Tuesday’s highest-rated entertainment telecast in six years (so, not counting sports or news).
It was the best demo number for any sitcom on any night since September 2014.
In terms of ABC’s record books, the “Roseanne” comeback delivered the Disney-owned network its largest overall audience for the one-hour time period since November 2006, and the best demo rating since November 2009.
Isolating only scripted fare, “Roseanne” was ABC’s most-watched show since a 2008 “Desperate Housewives” season premiere and the network’s highest rated since a “Modern Family” season premiere in 2012.”
Well, I’m happy for Roseanne and the gang. I’m less enthused for ABC, which is owned by Disney. I don’t think Disney, who has introduced Identity Politics into their media should be able to profit from a conservative perspective as well. Pitting people against one another and profiting from the ensuing chaos…I won’t have any of it. Our country is facing very grave threats right now to its liberty and these fat cats are sitting back counting their money.
I don’t buy anything Disney anymore. I recommend that those who care about this country do the same until they get out of the politics game.
