Veteran comic book artist and creator Rob Liefeld probably best known for creating characters like Deadpool, X-force and Cable (as well as his ahem…creative choices when it comes to anatomy) has landed a deal with Netflix for his Extreme Universe of graphic novel characters. The deal is for seven figures and will entail a series of feature films that are interconnected (like the MCU, DC films). For reasons that boggle the mind Liefeld has agreed to have world renown hack and adaptation destroyer Akiva Goldsman oversee the writers room behind these projects. Liefeld, Goldsman, and Brooklyn Weaver will produce.
A bit about the Extreme Universe:
- It entails six comic books.
- It has more than 50 characters.
- The writing style is said to be ‘edgy and subversive’.
What Liefeld has to say about Goldsman and Netflix:
“Netflix has become a part of every day existence for me and my children. Their programming is the most dynamic and diverse I have seen. I am beyond thrilled and inspired to be bringing my Extreme catalogue to life with the creative wizards at Netflix. What Akiva Goldsman has achieved with his craft and storytelling across all mediums in our industray is of absolute benefit for my Extreme characters. He is an absolute comic book fanatic and working with him on adapting Extreme Universe has been electric. His stellar work on Star Trek Discovery has wowed the fandom and trust me when I say that the Teen Titans show he is producing is going to blow fans away. I cannot wait to show the world what we have in store.”
Whatever Rob. I wish I could say that I was excited about this news but the involvement of Akiva Goldsman in anything is enough for me to declare it dead on arrival.
