According to BloodyDisgusting, Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones, X-Men: Days of the Future Past) is in talks to star in a reboot of Troma’s cult classic The Toxic Avenger. Legendary – the studio behind the upcoming Godzilla vs. Kong as well as Dennis Villeneuve’s Dune movies – has been working on this project for a while now. The reboot will be directed by the actor and filmmaker Macon Blair, who appeared in movies like Blue Ruin and Green Room. In 2017, he produced his directorial debut – dark comedy I Don’t Feel at Home in This World Anymore. It is currently unclear what role would Peter Dinklage play in the movie.
For the uninitiated, The Toxic Avenger is a 1984 exploitation horror comedy about a janitor Melvin Ferd (played by Mark Torgl). After falling into a drum of toxic waste, he becomes a mutated creature of hideous appearance and enormous strength. Melvin then uses his newfound powers to punish evildoers and criminals. Both hilarious and gruesome, The Toxic Avenger gained a cult following in the 1980s through midnight screenings. Its success led to three sequels and a short-lived 1991 cartoon series. The Toxic Avenger secured fame and notoriety both to the filmmakers behind it – Michael Herz and Lloyd Kaufman –and to their production company Troma Entertainment.
