In hopes of revamping the Transformers franchise, Paramount is working on two new movies says Deadline. James Vanderbilt, who formerly worked on Independence Day: Resurgence and The Amazing Spider-Man has been working on the script for the first film since April 2019. The second screenplay is being written by Joby Harold who penned Army of the Dead and worked as an executive producer on John Wick Chapter 3.
According to the article, Vanderbilt’s Transformers film takes its inspiration from Beast Wars. This animated series aired on TV for three seasons in the late 1990s and revolved around the conflict between two groups of robots who could turn into monstrous animals: noble Maximals and the evil Predacons. The other movie takes place in the Transformers universe established by Travis Knight’s 2018 Bumblebee. There are, as yet, no news about possible directors but both films will feature a new cast.
Michael Bay’s Transformers came out in 2007. Four sequels and one spinoff followed, amassing over $4.8 billion. Bumblebee was the least successful among them. Going against James Wan’s Aquaman during the 2018 holiday season, it earned less than half a billion dollars worldwide. A shame, since it is a really fun movie.
