Paramount seems to be digging Hasbro toy properties. SlashFilm reports that the studio is developing a follow-up film to Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins, even though that movie is yet to come out on October 23, 2020. Producers are interested in a sequel that would explore and expand upon the world of G.I. Joe. They are negotiating with the writing duo Joe Shrapnel and Anna Waterhouse, who helped polish the script for Snake Eyes. Shrapnel and Waterhouse also penned biographical drama Seberg and are currently working on a new adaptation of Daphne de Maurier gothic romance Rebecca.
Meanwhile, GeekTyrant reports Paramount announced a release date for its upcoming live-action Transformers film. According to the article, the release date is set on June 24th, 2022. Here’s the thing, though: there are currently two Transformers movies in development, and we have no idea which of them is coming out on that date. James Vanderbilt (Independence Day: Resurgence, The Amazing Spider-Man) is producing a script based on spinoff series Beast Wars: Transformers. Joby Harold (King Arthur: Legend of the Sword) is working on a follow-up to Travis Knight’s 2018 film Bumblebee. Finally, let’s not forget that Paramount is also developing a feature-length Transformers animated prequel.
