GeekTyrant reports that Olivia Colman (Hot Fuzz, The Crown) and Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones, Terminator Genisys) are in negotiations to appear in Disney Plus limited series based on the Secret Invasion storyline from Marvel Comics. While we still don’t know anything about their characters, we do know Samuel L. Jackson and Ben Mendelsohn will reprise their performances from Captain Marvel as Nick Fury and Talos, respectively. British actor Kingsley Ben-Adir (One Night in Miami) will join the cast as well.
Secret Invasion was first revealed during Disney’s Investor Day back in December 2020. The original crossover event ran in Marvel comics from January 2008 until January 2009. In it, a shape-shifting alien race known as Skrull infiltrates the ranks of Earth’s superheroes. By replacing some of them, they deliberately cause chaos and distrust ahead of an alien invasion.
In January, producer Kevin Feige — the mastermind behind the MCU — talked a bit about the project. According to him, the series won’t be as epic in scope because of budget constraints. Instead, it will focus on the paranoia elements of the story. It will also rely heavily on the interplay between Jackson’s super-spy Nick Fury and Mendelsohn’s Skrull insurgent Talos. As is often the case with Marvel movies, these two characters had fun onscreen chemistry together.
