The second season of the fantasy series The Witcher will premiere on December 17, 2021, reports GeekTyrant. Netflix announced this during the last week’s virtual event titled WitcherCon. Season two will begin in the aftermath of the Battle of Sodden when Geralt of Rivia (Henry Cavill – Man of Steel) found himself entrusted with the life and safety of Princess Cirilla (Freya Allan – Into the Badlands). With The Continent in turmoil after the battle, he decides to take her to the safest place he knows – Kaer Morhen, an ancient fortress where monster hunters learn their trade. Season two will consist out of six episodes. Behind the camera, Declan de Barra (Iron Fist, The Originals) will take over as showrunner from Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, who’ll remain onboard as an executive producer.
However, this isn’t the only Netflix project set in this fantasy universe. As revealed during WitcherCon, a feature-length animated film titled The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf will premiere on August 23, 2021. Set before the events depicted in the original series, it will tell a story focusing on Geralt’s mentor and friend, Vesemir, while he was still a young witcher. Finally, there’s also a live-action limited series The Witcher: Blood Origin, featuring Sophia Brown (The Capture), Laurence O’Fuarain (Vikings), and Michelle Yeoh (Star Trek: Discovery). The filming of this series starts this summer.
