Netflix just renewed The Witcher for the third season, reports BloodyDisgusting. In addition, the streaming service announced plans for a second feature-length animated film following the recently released The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf. Netflix also revealed the first look behind the scenes of the upcoming live-action prequel series The Witcher: Blood Origin.
All this happened during last week’s virtual event called Tudum. Netflix built hype for its shows by releasing new trailers and teasers for Cobra Kai, Cowboy Bebop, Ozark, Sandman, Stranger Things, and The Umbrella Academy. Viewers also got a sneak peek of upcoming movies like the action-comedy Red Notice with Gal Gadot, Dwayne Johnson, and Ryan Reynolds; satirical science fiction film Don’t Look Up starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence; western The Harder They Fall featuring Idris Elba and Regina King; and a sequel to the action thriller Extraction with Chris Hemsworth.
Netflix seems dedicated to expanding The Witcher franchise. Lauren Schmidt Hissrich remains the showrunner for the show starring Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia, Freya Allan as Princess Cirilla, and Anya Chalotra as the sorceress Yennefer. Meanwhile, Kwang Il Han directed this summer’s animated film The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf, while the producer and screenwriter Declan de Barra is in charge of The Witcher: Blood Origin.
