Netflix Orders a Film from the Director of Happy Death Day

Netflix continues its ambitious plans for producing original movies. After pretty much issuing blank checks to directors like Alfonso Cuarón (Roma), David Fincher (Mank), Rian Johnson (Knives Out), Martin Scorsese (The Irishman), and Zack Snyder (Army of the Dead) to film their dream projects, the streaming service is now looking to hire filmmaker Christopher Landon (Happy Death Day, Freaky) as well.

According to BloodyDisgusting, Landon will direct a movie titled We Have a Ghost, based on a short story Ernest by Geoff Manaugh. In the story, an owner of a haunted house named Frank starts filming a mostly harmless ghost, nicknamed Ernest. As his videos go viral, Ernest becomes a worldwide sensation, with Frank exploiting the poor ghost for money. Naturally, it is only a matter of time before things go wrong. SlashFilm adds the movie will feature Jennifer Coolidge (Promising Young Woman), David Harbour (Stranger Things), Anthony Mackie (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier), and Tig Notaro (Army of the Dead) in leading roles.

Over the last two decades, Landon made a name for himself as a screenwriter of movies like Blood & Chocolate, Disturbia, and the first three Paranormal Activity sequels. In 2014 came Landon’s directorial debut with Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones, which he also wrote.

We Have a Ghost will premiere sometime next year.
