You thought we were done with Netflix animation? Well, you were wrong! According to GeekTyrant, the streaming service is developing not one but two animated shows set in the Far Cry universe!
For those unfamiliar with this franchise, Far Cry is a series of first-person shooter games by Ubisoft. In them, players explore massive virtual worlds loosely inspired by real-life locations. All the while, they battle wild animals as well as pirates and paramilitary troops working for local dictators and crime lords.
Adi Shankar (Castlevania) will help produce Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix. A six-episode cartoon series will be based on Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon. This 2013 game expansion is a lovingly crafted spoof of 1980s Saturday morning action cartoons. Now, the idea will come full circle, with Blood Dragon becoming an animated TV show.
As for the second project, it will be adult-oriented anime TV series inspired by the (relatively) more straightforward stories and worlds depicted in Far Cry games. While producers are still assembling the creative team for the project, we know it will involve people from Ubisoft like Gérard Guillemot, Hélène Juguet, and Hugo Revon.
