    Mortal Combat Animated Film to Debut This Year

    Several months ago we reported that the filming of a new live-action Mortal Kombat movie has begun. Now we learn that Warner Bros. Animation is working on an animated Mortal Kombat film as well! According to The Hollywood Reporter, Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge will feature Joel McHale (Community) as the voice of Johnny Cage with Jennifer Carpenter (Dexter) providing the voice of Sonya Blade. Ethan Spaulding (Avatar: The Last Airbender, Mike Tyson Mysteries) will direct the film based on a script penned by Jeremy Adams (Supernatural).

    Additionally, voice cast will include Ike Amadi as Jax Briggs; Steve Blum as Sub-Zero; ArttButler as Shang Tsung; Robin Atkin Downes as Kano; Grey Griffin as Kitana and SatoshiHasashi; David B. Mitchell as Raiden; Darin De Paul as Quan Chi; Kevin Michael Richardson; Jordan Rodrigues as Lui Kang; Patrick Seitz as Scorpion and Fred Tatascioreas as Demon Torturer.

    Created by Ed Boon and John Tobias, the first Mortal Kombat game came out in 1992. It became one of the most profitable gaming franchises of all time and was adapted in two films in the 1990s. Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge comes out later this year.
