Back in May, we reported George Miller was developing a Mad Max: Fury Road prequel called Furiosa. Now, GeekTyrant revealed the first details about the film’s casting. Anya Taylor-Joy (Split, The New Mutants, The Witch) will portray young Furiosa. Other announced cast members include Chris Hemsworth (Avengers: Endgame, Thor: Ragnarok) and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Aquaman, Watchmen).
Ever since Mad Max: Fury Road came out in 2015, George Miller expressed his interest in further developing the story of the film. However, it was quite a shock to learn he wasn’t interested in continuing the tale of Furiosa as portrayed by Charlize Theron. Instead, Miller was more drawn towards her origin story, before she lost her arm and became a war rig driver for Immortan Joe.
Miller is currently working on the film Three Thousand Years of Longing, featuring Idris Elba (Hobbs and Shaw) and Tilda Swinton (Doctor Strange) in lead roles. He hopes to complete that movie sometime next year. Miller then wants to direct, co-write and produce Furiosa. He will be assisted by his longtime producing partner Doug Mitchell.
