SlashFilm says Lionsgate has postponed releases of its upcoming sequels to John Wick and Saw. Director Chad Stahelski first mentioned the possibility of John Wick Chapter 4 in May 2019 while promoting John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum on Reddit. Lionsgate officially announced the fourth sequel during John Wick 3‘s opening week, with a scheduled release date of May 21, 2021. However, as with so many other movies by now, its production had to be postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The studio has now pushed John Wick Chapter 4 to 2022.
A similar fate awaits Spiral: From the Book of Saw. This horror film began as a story pitch by the actor and comedian Chris Rock (Dolemite Is My Name), who also plays a lead role in the movie. Spiral was written by Josh Stolberg and Pete Goldfinger (Jigsaw, Piranha 3D) and directed by Darren Lynn Bousman (Repo! The Genetic Opera). Initially slated for a release on October 23, 2020, Spiral was first moved up to May 15 of this year only to now be postponed until May 21, 2021.
