Written by Kim Eun-hee and directed by Kim Seong-hun, Kingdom is a South Korean original Netflix horror series. Based off the webcomic “Land of the Gods” authored by Kim Eun-hee and drawn by Yang Kyung, the story features a prince who is sent on a suicide mission to investigate a mysterious plague that is spreading across the country. The story is a period piece, taking place in Korea’s medieval Joseon period.
“How can humans eat humans?”
Toruk's Take The only person I recognize is Bae Doona, who has been in all sorts of things (Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance, The Host, Cloud Atlas and more recently the cancelled Netflix series Sense8). I can’t say that I have a particular hankering for Zombie-based stories. Truth be told I’m probably a little zombied-out. I mean, we have so many zombies (I’m looking at you leftist) running around in real life it kinda makes telling fictional tales about them moot. However, The South Koreans do have a way of putting an interesting spin on well-trodden subject matter. This might be worth our time.
Kingdom starring Ju Ji-hoon, Bae Doona, Ryu Seung-ryong, Kim Sang-ho, Heo Joon-ho, and Jeon Seok-ho premieres on Netflix January 25th, 2019.
