Hulu Announces How I Met Your Mother Spinoff Series

This week Hulu introduced the cast of its How I Met Your Mother spinoff series titled – appropriately enough – How I Met Your Father. As AVClub reports, the sitcom will star actress and singer Hillary Duff (Lizzie McGuire, Younger) as a narrator named Sophie telling the story of how she met her husband to their son. Tom Ainsley (The Royals, Versailles) will play Charlie, an aspiring model from a wealthy conservative family. Chris Lowell (Promising Young Woman, Veronica Mars) will portray Jesse, a wannabe musician working as an Uber driver. Francia Raisa (Grown-ish) will play an aspiring stylist named Valentina. Suraj Sharma (Life of Pi) will portray bar owner Sid, and Tien Tran (Candyman) will play Jesse’s adoptive sister Ellen.

How I Met Your Mother was a sitcom juggernaut that aired on CBS for nine seasons and over 200 episodes from 2005 until 2014. Some kind of a spinoff seemed like an obvious idea. And yet, even though the show How I Met Your Dad involved Carter Bays and Craig Thomas – who helmed the original show, too – 20th Television decided not to turn the pilot into a steady series. Seven years later, Hulu ordered a new pilot from Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger, who previously collaborated on shows like Love, Simon and This is Us. Aptaker and Berger will serve as creators, writers, and executive producers.

It is as yet unknown when will How I Met Your Father premiere.
