Hellraiser and ‘Salem’s Lot Remakes Find Their Directors

A new week brings with it new remakes – namely, Hellraiser and ‘Salem’s Lot., both projects announced their directors! David Bruckner, who previously filmed The Night House, will helm the Hellraiser remake. Meanwhile, Gary Dauberman, director of Annabelle Comes Home and screenwriter of It, will helm the new version of ‘Salem’s Lot.

Now, truth be told, both of these projects have been in works for a while. We even covered some of them here. Hellraiser is a 1987 film adaptation of the horror novella The Hellbound Heart by Clive Barker – who also directed it. Over the next three decades, Hellraiser spawned whooping nine sequels – good, bad and terrible – as well as comic books and other merchandise. Ben Collins and Luke Piotrowski (Super Dark Times) are writing the script for this remake with David S. Goyer as a producer.

As for ‘Salem’s Lot, this vampire horror novel by Stephen King was first published in 1975. However, King wasn’t as lucky in the adaptations of this novel as Barker. ‘Salem’s Lot was made into a TV miniseries twice – in 1979 and 2004. Both of these were forgettable. With Gary Dauberman as the film’s writer, director, and producer, the new ‘Salem’s Lot might even turn out to be watchable.
