GODZILLA:The Planet Eater Official Teaser 2

Co-directed by Kōbun Shizuno and Hiroyuki Seshita, the third and final entry in the Godzilla anime trilogy, Godzilla: The Planet Eater sees Godzilla’s rule on Earth challenged by the extraterrestrial beast called King Ghidorah.

    Toruk's Take

I saw the first one of this series, thought it was okay. Nothing to write home (or on the Internet) about, but it wasn’t terrible. The Godzila design took a little getting used to, wasn’t crazy about it. It wasn’t Godzilla 1998 bad but I think I recall it seeming a little…bloated. Perhaps even a bit too mechanical for my taste. Oh course I am from the man-in-suit era so take my complaint with a bit of salt.

When they said this was a teaser they weren’t lying. Not a whole lot to gleam from it. I suppose it would make more sense if I saw the second movie in the trilogy. Perhaps I’ll rectify that this weekend.

Time to share one of my favorite Godzilla scenes (and, incidentally, Godzilla designs)!

From Godzilla Millennium (1999), Godzilla is battling the alien creature Orga who can absorb and use Godzilla’s DNA. Orga thinks that it will be a good idea to swallow Godzilla whole and be done with it. Alas, it wasn’t a good idea…it wasn’t a good idea at all.

The part that makes this scene so awesome is when the orchestral sound cuts out and we begin to hear the humm of Godzilla’s fins as they swell with energy. We pretty much know what’s going to happen next but it’s an awesome trope that Godzilla, like the best wrestlers…has a finishing move.

Hell, one might say he/she was the originator of them.

Godzilla: The Planet Eater starring is scheduled for release in Japan November 9, 2018 and available on Netflix (worldwide) early 2019.
