In May 2018 Paramount first announced the new G. I. Joe movie focusing on the character Snake Eyes – the coolest techno-ninja in all of Toyland. Filming began in Vancouver last October and then moved to Japan this January. Now, GeekTyrant reports that principal photography is done. While originally slated for a release on March 27, 2020, Snake Eyes is instead coming out on October 23, 2020.
Snake Eyes will tell the origin story of this G.I. Joe character. Snake Eyes was first introduced in 1982 in G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero action figures toy line. It swiftly became to be one of the fan favorites, in no small part helped by the sudden popularity of ninjas in the 1980s. Snake Eyes is directed by the German filmmaker Robert Schwentke (Red, The Divergent movies) with a screenplay by Evan Spiliotopoulos (Hercules). It features Henry Golding (Crazy Rich Asians) as Snake Eyes, Samara Weaving (Ready or Not) as Scarlett, Úrsula Corberó (Money Heist) as Baroness, Iko Uwais (The Raid) as Hard Master and Andrew Koji (Fast & Furious 6) as Storm Shadow.
