Almost two years ago, we first reported filmmaker Kevin Smith (Clerks, Dogma, Mallrats) is developing a new He-Man animated series. Last week, Netflix revealed the first images from the latest version of the old Saturday morning cartoon.
According to the synopsis, Masters of the Universe: Revelation is taking place “After a cataclysmic battle between He-Man and Skeletor, Eternia is fractured and the Guardians of Grayskull are scattered. And after decades of secrets tore them apart, it’s up to Teela to reunite the broken band of heroes, and solve the mystery of the missing Sword of Power in a race against time to restore Eternia and prevent the end of the universe.”
The voice cast is undeniably impressive: Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy, the Vampire Slayer) as Teela, Mark Hamill (Mark Hammill!) as Skeletor, and Chris Wood (Vampire Diaries) as He-Man. Additionally, the cast includes Liam Cunningham (Game of Thrones) voicing Man-At-Arms, Lena Headey (Game of Thrones, also) as Evil-Lyn, Stephen Root (Get Out) as Cringer, and Alicia Silverstone (Batman & Robin) as Queen Marlena.
This is, of course, is neither the first nor only He-Man remake. There was the 1990 version titled The New Adventures of He-Man and He-Man and the Masters of the Universe in 2002. Masters of the Universe: Revelation will premiere on Netflix sometime this year.
