Emily Blunt to Play the First Female Detective

After co-starring in Disney’s action-adventure Jungle Cruise alongside Dwayne Johnson, Emily Blunt is getting ready for another historical adventure story. According to an article by GeekTyrant, Amazon Studio wants to film a movie inspired by the life of Kate Warne – the first woman to become a detective at the Pinkerton Agency. Blunt will star in and produce the film. Dwayne Johnson will also help produce it through his company, Seven Bucks Productions.

Apparently, Warne had a fascinating life. Widowed at the age of 23, she applied for the job of an investigator at Allan Pinkerton’s detective agency in the mid-1850s. Despite working in a male-dominated profession at the period of history when women had practically no political rights, Warne excelled at her job. In 1861 she helped prevent an assassination attempt at the life of the then President-Elect Abraham Lincoln. Then, during the American Civil War, she worked alongside Pinkerton, gathering intelligence for the Union.

Gustin Nash, who wrote screenplays for Youth in Revolt and Charlie Bartlett, will pen the script. At the moment, there is no information on who will direct the movie.
