Disney Working on a New Inspector Gadget Movie

According to The Hollywood Reporter, our corporate overlords at the Mouse House have decided to remake a cartoon series Inspector Gadget as a live-action movie. Saturday Night Live writers Mikey Day and Streeter Seidell will pen the script, just after they finish working on a Home Alone remake which is also a thing that exists now. New Inspector Gadget film will be produced by Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich, who both worked on Disney’s 2019 live-action Aladdin remake.

This will be the third live-action film about adventures of this bumbling cyborg detective and his far more capable niece and dog. First Inspector Gadget film came out in 1999 and featured Mathew Broderick (Ferris Bueller’s Day Off) as Gadget, Michelle Trachtenberg (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) as his niece Penny and Rupert Everett (My Best Friend’s Wedding) as the sinister Dr. Claw. A sequel followed in 2003 with French Stewart (3rd Rock from the Sun) as Gadget. The original Inspector Gadget cartoon series aired in syndication from 1983 until 1986. It was very successful and was followed by several sequels and spinoffs, with the most recent being a 2015 CGI-animated TV series.
