For my money the best live action depiction of Colossus was done in the movie Deadpool (2016). Granted I despise pretty much all X-men movies,long before Byan Singer became persona non grata I thought he was trash and his take on the X-men was trash. The movies not done by him were only marginally better. X-Men: First Class (2011) had some good moments, primarily those with Magneto. Logan (2017) was good ‘movie’, but in terms of adaptations, they all are abysmal. Given that, the bar wasn’t very high for Deadpool, but it was nice to actually see a character that looked and acted like Piotr Rasputin…if it was in a more comedic sense.
It’s not surprising that we’re hearing that the character will have a lot more screen-time in the sequel Deadpool 2. From Stefan Kapicic, the man beneath the steel:
Colossus is one of the most important characters, besides Deadpool and Cable, and you will see why. Colossus is important for this story. People who love Colossus are going to be crazy. All these new characters, so many surprises in this trailer. This is just the beginning. — Stefan Kapicic
The cynic in me snarks that the only reason they played the character so close to the comics was because they thought it would add more comedy to the show. I kick that mean bastard back to the pitt and tell him that they care about character like I do and aren’t exploiting him for comedic gain. That they aren’t laughing at him.
