Here’s interesting news: AVClub says that Cate Blanchett (The Lord of the Rings, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull) is currently in talks to star in the live-action feature film adaptation of Gearbox Software’s Borderlands computer games. If the deal goes through, Blanchett will portray Lilith, one of the four player characters from the first game.
The thought of a two-time Academy Award-winning actress appearing in a video game movie – directed by Eli Roth, no less – may seem silly, but the joke’s on you. Blanchett already collaborated with the director of such sumptuous cinematic feasts like Cabin Fever and Green Inferno. In 2018 she played a lead opposite Jack Black in Roth’s adaptation of a children’s mystery horror novel The House with a Clock in Its Walls.
Back in February, we wrote about Lionsgate developing a Borderlands movie. The film will be produced by Avi Arad, who also produced a whole bunch of Marvel Comics movies. The screenplay will be penned by Craig Mazin (Chernobyl) who is at the moment also working on a script for a TV series based on The Last of Us video game.
