Bumblebee Director to Helm Uncharted Movie

SlashFilm reports that Sony is in talks with the film director Travis Knight about helming the movie adaptation of popular video game series Uncharted. For years, Knight worked in LAIKA studio, producing stop-motion animated films like Coraline, ParaNorman and The Boxtrolls before directing Kubo and the Two Strings in 2016. Two years later, Knight directed Bumblebee, quite possibly the best Transformers film so far.

Uncharted is a third-person shooter following adventures of a globe-trotting treasure hunter Nathan Drake. The game was developed by Naughty Dog studio and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment in 2007. Uncharted proved out to be a critical and commercial success, leading to five sequels.

One might think that a movie with a premise such as “what if Indiana Jones, but today” would be a no-brainer. However, that is not the case. First talks about the possible Uncharted movie began in 2008. Since then, the project has been stuck in development hell, changing at least five directors and even more screenwriters. Over the years, there were talks of Drake being portrayed by Nathan Fillion (Firefly) Mark Wahlberg (Transformers: The Last Knight) and Chris Pratt (Jurassic World). Sony seems to have settled upon Tom Holland (Spider-Man: Far From Home) as young Nathan Drake. The latest release date for Uncharted film is December 2020.
