Black Widow Falls Victim to Coronavirus Delays

Each new day brings news about studios postponing yet another movie release. The most recent casualty of this is Marvel’s Black Widow. This standalone prequel about the titular Russian assassin (played by Scarlett Johansson) was set for a release on May 1st. Well, not anymore, at least according to the GeekTyrant. More ominously, there’s no information about the movie’s new release date. Unfortunately, this isn’t surprising. As countries all over the world struggle to slow down the pandemic, governments urge people to stay at home as much as possible. Public venues like cinemas are closing to avoid spreading the disease.

Disney also delayed the release of Armando Iannucci’s latest film The Personal History of David Copperfield as well as Fox’s thriller The Woman in the Window featuring Amy Adams. BloodyDisgusting reports that Lionsgate postponed the release of Antebellum and Spiral: From the Book of Saw. Movie productions have been similarly struck. Filming of Matrix 4 and Fantastic Beasts 3 has been suspended, their cast and crews sent home to avoid contacting coronavirus on the sets.

In a development surprising absolutely no one, productions of Uncharted movie and James Cameron’s multiple Avatar sequels have also been halted. But then again, Uncharted has been stuck in development hell for around ten years now while Cameron has been talking about Avatar sequels for over a decade.
