Amazon is working on a live-action series about the adventures of She-Ra, the Princess of Power, says SlashFilm. Since the project is currently in the very early stages of development, there isn’t much info about it. If it goes to order, this will be the first time this Masters of the Universe character appears in a live-action story.
In addition, we do know that the live-action She-Ra series will tell a new, standalone tale unconnected to the animated show She-Ra and the Princesses of Power. Produced by DreamWorks Animation Television, that series streamed on Netflix for five seasons, during which it developed a devoted fan base. While borrowing some characters and ideas from the 1985 Filmation cartoon, the Netflix version had no ties to the broader Masters of the Universe setting.
The cartoon series She-Ra: Princess of Power was created in the mid-1980s by Larry DiTillio (Masks of Nyarlathotep) and J. Michael Straczynski (Babylon 5). It was a spinoff to Filmation’s wildly popular He-Man and the Masters of the Universe animated show. In its first iteration, She-Ra was depicted as Princess Adora, twin sister To Prince Adam/He-Man. Kidnapped by the villainous Hordak, she grows up on Eternia’s twin planet Etheria and eventually leads a rebellion against him. In addition, she learns to wield Sword of Protection, granting her powers similar to those of He-Man.
