Slash film reports Amazon announced the release date for its adult animated superhero series Invincible – March 26. The series follows Mark Grayson (voiced by Steven Yeun – The Walking Dead), a seemingly ordinary teenager and a son of Omni-Man (voiced by J. K. Simmons – Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy), the world’s mightiest superhero. Aside from your regular teenage angst, Mark has to deal with his growing superpowers as he begins training to become a superhero himself, called Invincible.
Invincible began as a comic book co-created by writer Robert Kirkman (best known for creating Walking Dead) and artist Cory Walker. Skybound Entertainment – an imprint of Image comics – first published Invincible in November 2002. It ran for 144 issues until February 2018. The series drew notice due to its adult sensibilities and depictions of violence.
In 2018, Amazon first revealed its plans of adapting Invincible into an animated TV series, issuing a production order for a first season consisting of eight episodes. The voice cast is impressive and includes – among others – Mahershala Ali, Zazie Beetz, Clancy Brown, Walton Goggins, Mark Hamill, Jon Hamm, Djimon Hounsou, Jason Mantzoukas, Sonequa Martin-Green, Ezra Miller, Gillian Jacobs, Sandra Oh, Seth Rogen, and Zachary Quinto.
