    Amazon Developing Fallout TV Series

Exciting news from our corporate overlords at Amazon: the studio is developing a TV show based on the classical post-apocalyptic RPG series Fallout. In charge of this project are Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, the creative duo behind HBO’s Westworld. Last year, Nolan and Joy signed a deal with Amazon for exclusive projects like the adaptation of The Peripheral, a science fiction novel by William Gibson, father of cyberpunk.

For all of you who spent the last 20-something years hiding in underground vaults, Fallout is a series of hugely popular computer role-playing games first released by the late and lamented Black Isle Studios in 1997. Set centuries after the nuclear war destroyed both Communist China and the dystopian future US, Fallout sends the player on an epic quest through an irradiated ruined wasteland populated by survivors, scavengers, mutants, gigantic insects, and deranged robots. Its influences range from Mad Max films to 1950s sci-fi movie schlock, with a healthy dose of political satire added to the mix.

The Hollywood Reporter says the project comes with a series commitment penalty attached. If the executives like the script, the show will bypass the pilot stage and go straight to production. If not, Nolan and Joy will still get paid for it.
