Adam Wingard to Adapt Robert Kirkman’s Hardcore

Fresh off the success of Godzilla vs. Kong, filmmaker Adam Wingard keeps picking up new projects. SlashFilm says the director of horror thrillers The Guest and You’re Next will direct an adaptation of a comic book series Hardcore for Universal. In addition, Wingard will also serve as one of the producers and help develop the script alongside Will Simmon.

First published by Image Comics, Hardcore was created by Robert Kirkman (Invincible, The Walking Dead) and Marc Silvestri (Uncanny X-Men, Wolverine). It tells a story about a top-secret military program code-named Hardcore allowing soldiers to take control over people’s bodies from afar and use them to assassinate others. Agent Drake is the best soldier in the program, who finds himself on the run, stuck in a body he took over.

Ever since Godzilla vs. Kong come to be one of the biggest blockbusters of the COVID-19 ERA (433 million and counting), Adam Wingard has been a sought-after commodity in Hollywood. He is currently in talks to direct a live-action ThunderCats movie, a Face/Off sequel, and a sequel to Godzilla vs. Kong.
