AVClub reports that Regal Cinemas, Landmark Theatres, and Alamo Drafthouse cinema chains will all be closing their doors. This understandable measure comes due to a country-wide effort to hinder the spread of COVID-19 pandemic by limiting contact among people. There has been no information about the future (and the paychecks) of their employees. As for the largest US theater chain AMC, it will adopt a so-called 50-50 policy instead. The theatre chain will cap ticket sales at 50 people or 50 percent of official capacity, whichever is less. This policy will last at least until April 30.
Meanwhile, studios are moving ahead of the schedule to make their latest titles available for digital purchase. BloodyDisgusting says that Warner Bros. will make Birds of Prey available for digital rental on March 24 on platforms like Amazon, iTunes, and Fandango. GeekTyrant adds NBCUniversal will make titles like Emma, The Hunt, The Invisible Man as well as the upcoming family movie Trolls World Tour available On Demand. Finally, Disney announced that its CGI-animated hit film Frozen 2 will come to Disney+ this weekend – three months ahead of schedule.
