Disney Developing a Stars Wars Story Set on the Sith Planet?

Deadline reports Disney is developing a new Star Wars feature set on the mysterious Sith world of Exegol that first appeared in last year’s The Rise of Skywalker. According to the website, the studio has hired filmmaker J.D. Dillard (Sweetheart, Sleight) and the screenwriter Matt Owens (Luke Cage, The Defenders, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) to develop this project. Besides that, we don’t even know will this be a feature film or a TV series.

While no one will claim Disney didn’t profit off this franchise, it had its misses, too. The Force Awakens grossed over $2 billion worldwide and most of the other films passed the $1 billion mark with ease. However, Solo: A Star Wars Story grossed less than $400 million at the global box office. This brought several proposed Star Wars projects – like movies about Boba Fett and Obi-Wan Kenobi – to a screeching halt.

The studio’s plans aren’t really clear even after last year’s success of The Mandalorian and The Rise of Skywalker. There has been no word about the proposed Rian Johnson’s Star Wars trilogy, and the crew working on Obi-Wan Kenobi miniseries has been put on hold. So far, we only know about the second season of The Mandalorian and the upcoming TV series about Diego Luna’s Rebellion member Cassian Andor.
