Netflix officially started production of the second season of its hit epic fantasy series The Witcher, reports SlashFilm. Additionally, the streaming service revealed new members of the show’s growing cast. Among them are Yasen Atour (Ben Hur, Robin Hood) as the witcher Coen; Agnes Bjorn as the vampire Vereena; Paul Bullion (Peaky Blinders) as Lambert; Thue Ersted Rasmussen (Fast and Furious 9) as the witcher Eskel; Aisha Fabienne Ross (The Danish Girl) as Lydia; Mecia Simson as the elven Queen Francesca, and – last but not least – Kristofer Hivju as monstrous Nivellen. Hivju is by far the most famous of the bunch, having played Tormund Giantsbane, a fan-favorite character on Game of Thrones.
The Witcher is based on fantasy novels and stories by the Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski that also influenced a series of best-selling computer role-playing games. Netflix renewed the series even before the first season streamed in December 2019. Henry Cavill will return in the titular role, with Freya Allan as the orphaned princess Ciri, Joey Batey as Jaskier the bard and Anya Chalotra as the sorceress Yennefer.
Season 2 of The Witcher will have eight episodes, just like the first one. Stephen Surjik (The Umbrella Academy) will direct the first two episodes while Sarah O’Gorman (Cursed) will take over episodes 3 and 4. The Witcher will premiere sometime in 2021.
