Bad Boys Still Looking Good
According to the Box Office Mojo, Bad Boys for Life continued dominating the weekend box office. In its second weekend in cinemas, this action-comedy collected a bit over $34 million, with a domestic gross now at $120.6 million.
In the second place is once more World War I drama 1917 with $15.9 million. Directed, co-written, and produced by Sam Mendes (American Beauty, Skyfall, Spectre), 1917 so far has earned $104 million domestically. Now in its fifth week in cinemas, 1917 earned about $204 million worldwide. It doesn’t hurt that it also received 10 nominations at the 92nd Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Original Screenplay.
In third place with $12.2 million is Dolittle. Directed by Stephen Gaghan (Syriana) this fantasy adventure film will have a hard time returning its $175 million production budget: after two weeks in cinemas, this film’s domestic gross now stands at $44.3 million. Guy Ritchie’s latest crime comedy The Gentlemen landed in fourth place in its first weekend in cinemas, earning $10.6 million. And finally, in the fifth place at the last weekend’s box office is yet another fantasy adventure – Jumanji: The Next Level with $7.7 million with a total domestic gross of $283.3 million.
Seth Rogen and The Batman Co-Writer To Adapt a Comic Book About a Killer Meme
Seth Rogen is looking to produce a film adaptation of the post-apocalyptic horror comic book Memetic, says The Hollywood Reporter. The Batman co-writer Mattson Tomlin is also on board to pen the film’s script. In Memetic, an internet viral sensation known as a Good Time Sloth causes mass carnage as everyone who sees it succumbs to a murderous rage. The story follows a young man who escapes the effect of this viral meme due to being colorblind. Created by James Tynion IV and illustrated by Erik Donovan, Memetic was first published by BOOM! Studios in 2014.
Interestingly, this is a second comic book adaptation by Rogen and Tomlin this month. This duo also wants to adapt Fear Agent by Rick Remender, Tony Moore, and Jerome Opena. Comedian and actor Seth Rogen is a big comic book fan. Besides starring and co-writing the ill-received 2011 version of Green Hornet, his production company Point Grey Pictures helped co-produce TV adaptations of comic books The Boys and The Preacher.
Walton Goggins to Hunt Mel Gibson’s Santa Claus in Fatman
Deadline reports Walton Goggins has been cast in the dark comedy Fatman alongside Mel Gibson. Its premise is quite something. Goggins portrays an eccentric hitman called Skinnyman who operates out of a toy store. Skinnyman gets hired to kill Santa Claus by an angry kid for receiving a lump of coal instead of a present. Gibson will play Santa.
This is the most recent project to come from Rough House Pictures, a company that produced the critically acclaimed satirical TV shows Vice Principals and The Righteous Gemstones. Goggins delivered a stellar performance in both of these shows. On top of that, he appeared in the excellent modern-day western series Justified as well as in Quentin Tarantino’s movies Django Unchained and The Hateful Eight. Fatman will be directed by brothers Eshom and Ian Nelms. Their previous work includes indie titles like the drama Lost on Purpose, comedy Waffle Street and crime thriller Small Town Crime.
Fatman is scheduled for a release during the 2020 holiday season.
