Peyton Reed, director of Ant-Man (2015) and Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018), will also helm the third film about Marvel’s minuscule superhero, says The Hollywood Reporter. The article adds that the shooting of Ant-Man 3 will start by late 2020 or early 2021, with a release set for 2022. This means the movie will arrive in cinemas after Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Thor: Love and Thunder.
Payton Reed began working on television in the 1990s. He worked on shows like Upright Citizens Brigade and Mr. Show with Bob and David. He also directed comedies like Bring It On, The Break-Up and Yes Man. In 2015, Reed replaced British filmmaker Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead, Baby Driver) as the director of Ant-Man. While lighthearted Ant-Man movies lack the high stakes of most other Marvel movies, they proved themselves quite popular with the audiences: the first film grossed around $519 million and its sequel earned over $620 million.
Details about the cast of Ant-Man 3 are as yet unknown. However, there’s every reason to believe Michael Douglas, Evangeline Lilly, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Paul Rudd will return to reprise their performances.
