/film reports that The CW is working on a pilot for a superhero series about Superman (Tyler Hoechlin – Teen Wolf) and Lois Lane (Elizabeth Tulloch – Grimm). Titled Superman and Lois, the show will follow the titular couple as they try balancing saving the planet with their mundane lives and parenting a child who inherited his father’s Kryptonian superpowers. Todd Helbing (The Flash, Black Sails, Spartacus) will write the pilot.
Hoechlin and Tulloch already portrayed these characters in other “Arrowverse” TV shows. Based on DC Comics, this shared universe got its start in October 2012 with Arrow. That show proved quite popular. The Flash, Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow, and Batwoman followed. As Arrow enters its last season, The CW and the Arrowverse creators are looking for ways to extend their franchise.
Superman and Lois won’t be the first TV series focusing on a dynamic of this couple. In 1993 ABC first aired Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman. Featuring Dean Cain (Hit the Floor) as Clark Kent and Teri Hatcher (Desperate Housewives) as Lois Lane, the show proved successful enough to run for four seasons.
